Congratulations
to the Strikers U10 Boys A team for a great result last week at the Disney Cup
in Orlando, Florida. The team finished the round robin tied with two other teams
for first place in the division with identical records of 3 wins and one loss.
However, due to a weird tie breaking system, the team missed playing for the final
by one goal. In the end a team from Guatemala that Woodbridge beat made it through
instead. Our
boys showed that they can compete with any team including playing against boys
one year older. They scored the second highest total of goals with 29 and had
the fewest goals against of any team with only 7 surrendered. Woodbridge
beat Southern Florida 11-2, Florida 13-0, Guatemala 3-2. Their only loss was to
Ecuador 3-1 in a game where Woodbridge actually scored 3 goals two of which were
inexplicably not allowed by the official of that game. Two clear goals which would
have allowed us to finish with 10 points and a spot in the final. The
group of 50 parents, siblings, supporters, coaches, managers who traveled to support
the team was treated to some incredible soccer by the boys. Including a hard fought
come from behind win against Guatemala. A game that we trailed in 2-0 with 15
minutes left when the boys poured it on to score three thrilling goals. Our
training and soccer pedigree has shown all present that Woodbridge soccer produces
very skilled players and our training is second to none. Coach
Pat Lista and his staff would like to thank Sami Gideon and Gianni Cimini for
taking time to help the boys prepare and play great soccer. Congratulations
boys for making Woodbridge and Canada proud.
